Sensex today | Stock Market Live: Sensex surges 879 points, Nifty tops 23,280 as strong earnings and GST collections lift sentiment
Indian equity markets began November on a strong note, with robust September-quarter results from Reliance Industries, healthy automobile sales and strong GST collections lifting investor sentiment.
The Sensex surged 878.89 points, or 1.18 per cent, to 75,338.42 at 9.16 am, after opening at 75,178.24 against the previous close of 74,459.53. The Nifty 50 advanced 230.25 points, or 1 per cent, to 23,283.35.
Passenger-vehicle registrations rose 15.1 per cent year-on-year in October to 4,98,208, while two-wheeler registrations jumped 28.7 per cent to 23,20,139. GST collections stood at ₹2.31 lakh crore, the second-highest monthly figure on record. However, elevated crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainties remain key concerns.
Investors will also monitor the November 3 US midterm elections and their implications for global markets. Foreign institutional investors’ net outflows stood at approximately ₹45,160 crore in October, although selling moderated towards month-end. The September-quarter earnings season, economic data releases and developments in banking, automobile, consumer and industrial sectors will remain important market triggers during the week.
Positive opening: Gift Nifty at 23,305 signals a strong opening, indicating a potential gain of around 200 points over Friday’s Nifty futures close of 23,101.
Reliance Industries: Strong September-quarter results from the index heavyweight could support market sentiment.
Auto stocks: October passenger-vehicle registrations rose 15.1 per cent to 4,98,208, while two-wheeler registrations increased 28.7 per cent to 23,20,139.
GST collections: October collections reached ₹2.31 lakh crore, the second-highest monthly figure on record.
FII activity: October net outflows reached approximately ₹45,160 crore, but selling moderated in the final week, with intermittent buying interest.
Crude oil: WTI crude above $104 a barrel remains a concern amid geopolitical tensions and regional energy supply risks.
US midterm elections: The November 3 elections will be an important global market trigger.
Q2 earnings: Investors will track revenue growth, margin resilience and demand trends across banking, automobile, consumer and industrial companies.
